1981 Gaisford 0

April 5th Donington Park and the Donington GT opener should have been the debut of Tony`s new Lotus Esprit turbo as entered. MN reported '...Tony Sugden in a supercharged 2-litre Skoda. Sugden having started practice in the AET Engineering turbocharged Lotus Esprit , but only afer a minimal number of laps the 1975cc engine let go in full view of the pits , subsequent diagnosis revealing a cracked cylinder liner.' Having switched to his old faithful Skoda, which apparently had a supercharger fitted which kept Tony in the over 2500cc class, he took a class win. The Skodas was used twice more before the Esprit would get sorted and become his weapon of choice in GT racing until 1987. Here Tony holds off Walter Robertson in the DFVW.

April 20th Croft - one of the few times Tony wasnt running as the number 5 , here chasing Jeff Wilson ( Beetle ) on his way to a class win and ahead of the famous DFVW ,now in the hands of his old team mate Jim Price having bought it off Robertson.
