The Red 19 had a second strong season with 11 class wins ( 10 outright ) and Tony took the 'big' class in the BARC-North West Saloons + Sports Championship sponsored by the 1275 GT Centre. This was his debut season in this growing Championship that was mostly run at Oulton Park ,an old stomping ground and he would continue to campaign in this series until his retirement some 15 seasons later. Tony held off the challenge of local David Ellis in his mighty Aston Martin V8 to win the class. He finished 6th overall .
In the BARC national championship which was unsponsored having ended its 10 year support from Wendy Wools Tony took in about half of the rounds and settled for class runner-up to Alistair Fenwick.
Tony was setting a high standard wherever he went now and was on pole 10 times during the season which converted into 11 class wins ( 10 outright ). He also set lap records for special saloons at Donington and Snetterton.

1989

Tony heads and BARC Special Saloon legend David Doc Enderby in the Kharmann Ghia .
